Established Apr. 14, 1999 Active Worlds 2.1 is a VRML-based virtual reality chat environment released by Active Worlds.com Inc. It's an excellent group of chat worlds owned by various people interconnected and viewed using their chat browser. You can go there free and chat using 3D representations of yourself (avatars). It's free for visitors (you can even build property there for free in some of the worlds). You have more options (more avatar choices, private messages, contact lists, etc...) with paid registration. Windows Pentium processor running Windows 95/98/NT, 16 MB memory (32 recommended), 50 MB disk space, 256 color display (16-bit color recommended). You can download the Active Worlds browser here (coming soon) it's a specially written version designed to start in the center of Dream. The program is 1.67 MB in size. This is an image of what the chat program looks like once you install & run the browser. Utopia: Utopia is one of the first areas visible entering Dream. It lies North/ Northwest of the main area. It's a high- tech futuristic area. The Science Institute, the Resteraunt at the End of the Universe and Arrakis are here. Visions: Visions lies North/ Northeast of the main area. Other builders work to help build this futuristic region. Starfleet HQ, the Psi Corps and the Starship Enterprise can be found here. Daydream: Daydream is to the West. Follow the golden path through lands of enchantment. The Faerie Garden, Cloudland and the Isle of Enchantment are located here. Nightmare: Is the dark realm to the East. Visit the Graveyard, the Shadowlands & the Haunted House. Memory: Ancient Empires still exist to the South/ Southeast. Ancient pyramids, lost cities and old Gods reside here. Explore the Pyramids of Giza, The Parthenon and Delphi. Mythic: To the South/Southwest lies the Castles and Kingdoms of Mythic. Other builders help to create various sites in Mythic.
